Day 3 – Alaska 2018 – Formal Star Pours

Coach had not been on a cruise ship since a terrible 3-day cruise with 30-40 foot seas in the Gulf of Mexico. It was a vomitorium. Bad news. Coach swore off cruising, but a man who loves the outdoors cannot decline a chance to see Alaska and Princess has made me reconsider my previous cruise stance. We have had a great time so far.

All rose early again thanks to the previously mentioned disorder. We had an amazing breakfast! All the goodness in such a small spot. Uncle R gave us all a bit of a panic attack due to a time change mishap. We all ate super-fast thinking we were late for our next activity – only to find out we had another hour. TeamHovis could not imagine how good breakfast would have been if we had tasted it. Coach and Lady Coach took full advantage of the extended time and drank a pot of coffee. Mmmmmmmmmmmm…. The highlight of breakfast was watching PJ guzzle her Fruit Loops milk. She was determined and ultimately successful.

We then headed down to the theatre for a screening of a cool film: Spirit of Alaska. The movie got Coach pumped to get into port in Juneau and start adventuring. The kiddos headed back to the kids’ club for an hour while the adults dominated Trivia Time.

TeamHovis and Company for the win! Grand prize – wine stoppers. Coach then entered a free throw competition – 3rd place. 50 mph winds make for hilarity. Em watched Coach while laughing and shivering. The rest of the adults played Bingo – no winners. We all split up for lunch – Team Hovis headed to a “fancy” tablecloth lunch in the formal dining room. It was a relaxing time with Grandma. Then it was nap time for PJ and LadyCoach. The big kids headed to the kids’ club for a Discovery Channel Shark Week Contest! Way Fun! Coach spent time writing up the trip and enjoying the views of British Columbia. Gman got bored with the kids’ club and headed back down to the room to hang out with dad. We played two rounds of Pokemon, Coach was destroyed.

Gman also loved his fancy drink – water with four cherries.

We went and picked up Em from the kids’ area just before 5pm. It was time to get dolled up for Formal Dinner. Lady Coach looked amazing as usual. Everybody was just dressed up in their finest. We had a great dinner and some great laughs.

TeamHovis bailed on the rest of the family just before the dessert course – they were showing “The Last Jedi” up on the pool deck and the kiddos all wanted to watch. We got dressed in our warmest clothes and headed up to the top deck. Believe it or not, it rained all through dinner. All of the deckchairs were wet, so we had to layout several towels per chair. We then checked out 20 blankets and proceeded to cover everyone from head to toe. The temperature was in the 40’s. Luckily it also rained off and on all night. Everybody made it until the last heavy rain right before the big last battle – Gman and I stuck it out until the end. Real men watch movies even when they have hypothermia.

See you tomorrow.
