Day 6 – Alaska 2018 – Glacierfjord! Gesundheit.

Today was about the perfect scenic cruise day. No stops, ports, or excursions today. A day to sit back and enjoy the beauty of Alaska. We cruised into Glacier Bay National Park – check one more off the list! 6 hours of majestic mountains, sea, and sky. We enjoyed a great breakfast while coming into view of Margerie Glacier. The binoculars were out as we watched the glacier break and calve into the bay. The sound of the ice cracking and breaking sends chills down your spine.

IMG_0266 After finishing up breakfast we headed south past Reid Glacier and innumerable waterfalls pouring down the mountainside. The proportions make it so difficult to truly appreciate the scale of what you’re witnessing. Things that would be the number one tourist attraction for an entire state in the lower 48 do not have names here.

The kiddos have been begging to go swimming since we departed – Coach took on the responsibility. We hot tubbed in a huge 12-person sauna for about 45-minutes while Coach enjoyed the views in his swimsuit and shirt. Felt invigorating. When the adults saw rain moving up the bay straight for the boat we headed for the main pool where we’d have some shelter from the elements. The other adults stood watch over the towels, etc, as SuperCoach swam in the freezing rain with all the giggling kids! It was great fun. At one point, Coach held court for about 10 tiny girls and PJ as they discussed their favorite parts of the trip. It was pretty cute. Coach never felt so out of place in his life. Apparently, if you’re the only adult in the swimming pool during a freezing rain the children accept you as one of their own.

After a late lunch the kiddos headed up the kids’ area for some competitive activities and the adults sat in the dining room drinking coffee and watching for whales. It was a nice afternoon. We all got gussied up for dinner. After dinner the kiddos turned-in because we had an early morning in Ketchikan the next day. The adults lost a little money playing blackjack and then headed over to the main theatre to see stand-up comedian Greg Warren. Lots of laughs. Then all crashed before 10pm.

Today was a picture fail day! Too much lazing around.
