Day 8 – Alaska 2018 – Her Majesty & The Ship

Our last full day on the ship! Last night we had some stormy seas so everybody slept like a baby with the rocking. However, we had some rather nauseous folks the next morning at breakfast. All recovered by the afternoon and nobody got sick. It was a slow day at sea. We shared a long leisurely late breakfast. We then all split up for various activities. Gman, Cousin J, and PJ all headed to the kids club for craft time while Coach, LadyCoach, and Em played some Disney Sing-A-Long trivia. Man, people know stuff about Disney! We lost. Right after, we played general knowledge trivia and pulled off a second place finish. Then it was time for a reunion. All the kiddos and adults played Phase 10. Coach hates Phase10. He kept himself busy by reading a book in the corner. Apparently they got through 2 rounds before everyone quit. Coach is vindicated. Then we all gathered together for a late lunch of chicken wings and pizza. TeamHovis is full.

Then it was time to run the crucible. TIME TO PACK! It was a real test of the coaching staff’s parenting skills. There were tears, yelling, and pouting – the kids even behaved badly. After an hour’s work, all was right in the world and the rooms looked good as new. Coach took on the role of super dad and took the kiddos swimming. Wouldn’t you know it?  Stinging cold rain. Smiles were had all around and Coach and PJ stuck to the hot tub for the most part. PJ is a smart one. After we dried off the whole family headed down to the dining hall for our last dinner together. PJ and Grandpa got silly.

After dinner, the real treat for the evening began. We docked in Victoria, BC.

We decided to leave the kiddos behind and have some adult time. With the kiddos safely checked into the kids’ area for movie and games night, the adults walked into downtown Victoria for an English Pub experience. We had a great time trying the local spirits and not correcting anyone at the table.

Lots of laughs. We grabbed a taxi back to the boat and grabbed the sleepy kids from the children’s area and called it a night.

It has been such a great cruise. We’ll leave the ship for the last time in the morning!
