It is our last day in Glacier and we were all getting a bit of cabin fever. Coach had to work for most of the morning to get all the things done so the kiddos tried to figure out ways to release energy. None constructive. Everyone needed to burn off some steam. An afternoon hike was in order. We heard through the grapevine that there was a cool trail leading to the canyon we ran the rapids through yesterday originating in our little neighborhood. We went looking and met success.

TeamHovis loved this stroll through the woods. You feel so small in this environment. Coach prayed throughout the hike that the woods would never lose its magic! It would not this day, for sure. Almost right off the bat, we stumbled upon the Glacier town cemetery, right in the middle of the woods. Lovely setting. The flags were laid upon a WWII Navy vet’s grave.

We walked past huge trees and thousands of berry bushes, deliciously ripe berry bushes. LadyCoach might have begun looking around for bears. At about the halfway point, PJ announced she “had to go potty”. Perfect timing as always. Coach and the big kids went on down the trail so LadyCoach could teach tiny how to pee in the woods. The pants came down and she began to squat but our fancy girl did not want her hiney to touch anything so she let it all go. Pants and panties were not salvageable. LadyCoach asked Coach to use his MacGyver skills and work up a new outfit: introducing the Hoodie Skirt.
The team would not be denied. We pushed on for the river. We might have taken a few wrong turns trying to pinpoint the sound of the river, but we eventually hit pay dirt. LadyCoach, of course, never wavered in her confidence in Coach. He has never gotten them lost before, why would she doubt him now? Canyon found – rock skipping and bouldering for the win!
Gman said, “Dad this would be a cool river to raft”. His mind was blown when Coach said, “We did this very stretch yesterday!”. Gman, “Cool”. All was going well when PJ decided her hoodie skirt would not be the only drama on the hike. She fell and busted her knee open on a downed log. There was blood and tears. LadyCoach took great pity on her and carried her the majority of the way back.
When we got back it was time to eat some food and watch the end of the Baudelaires’ Season 2 drama. It is amazing what a little food can do to a sad tiny person.

Like it never happened. Tomorrow we head south!
